What to Expect

  1. Consultation: We will discuss your goals and identify treatment areas such as the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabella), crow’s feet, lip flip, chin muscle, the muscle that pulls down the corners of your mouth, armpits (for excess sweating) and masseter muscles (for jaw clenching or slimming the face).

  2. Procedure: Neurotoxin treatment involves small needle sticks to inject the neurotoxin into targeted muscles. We use the smallest needles possible and a vibrating tool to distract pain receptors, making the procedure more comfortable.

  3. Recovery:

    • Immediate: You may experience minor bruising at the injection sites.

    • First 24 Hours: Avoid exercise and facial massages.

    • Full Results: Typically seen within 2 weeks.

Neurotoxin 101: Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau

Neurotoxins, or neuromodulators, are a class of drugs that help to treat facial wrinkles by relaxing or paralyzing the muscles that cause those wrinkles. At Meridian Plastic Surgery, we carry three different types or brands of neurotoxins: Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau. They all have similar mechanisms, but slight differences as shown below.

Botox & Neurotoxins FAQs

  • Neurotoxins typically last 3-4 months.

  • You can usually see the full results of neurotoxins after 2 weeks. Some neurotoxins, such as Dysport, start to take effect quicker (2-3 days) while Botox takes about 5-7 days.

  • Botox, Jeuveau, Daxxify, and Dysport are different brands of neurotoxins. While there are subtle differences in how they work at a molecular level, all function by paralyzing the targeted muscles to reduce wrinkles.

  • No, you don't have to continue treatments if you choose not to. However, for optimal preventative effects, it's recommended to get neurotoxins every 3-4 months or when the product has worn off.
