About Lower Eyelid Surgery
Brighten your eyes
Lower Eyelid Surgery, or Lower Blepharoplasty, smooths the contour of the lower eyelid by addressing bulging or hollow areas and occasionally removing excess skin. This procedure rejuvenates the under-eye area giving it a more youthful appearance.
Why Consider lower Eyelid Surgery?
The lower eyelids can show signs of aging such as puffiness, dark circles and sagging skin. Lower Blepharoplasty helps you achieve a smoother, more youthful under-eye area, resulting in a subtle change with a big impact.
The Benefits:
Rejuvenated Appearance: Smooths out lower eyelid bulging and, hollowness, making you look more approachable and rejuvenated.
Enhanced Confidence: A refreshed look can boost your self-esteem and reduce the need for heavy makeup to cover under-eye issues.
Natural Results: The focus remains on enhancing your natural beauty and making your eyes the center of attention.
What to Expect
Consultation: We will discuss your concerns and goals, evaluating the best approach for your lower eyelid surgery.
Procedure: Depending on your anatomy, an incision will be made inside the lower eyelid (touching the conjunctiva or the white part of the eye) or just below the lash line. The lower eyelid fat will either be removed or repositioned to smooth the contour. This procedure may also be combined with fat grafting to the lower lids.
Recovery: You can expect mild bruising and swelling for about 2 weeks. Refrain from strenuous physical activity that would increase your heart rate or blood pressure for at least 2 weeks.

Lower Eyelid Surgery FAQs
-
You will likely experience mild bruising and swelling for 2 weeks. If an incision below the eyelashes is used, sutures will be in place for one week. After a few days, you can resume normal activities like running errands, going to dinner, or returning to work. It's recommended to minimize eye strain from computer activity or reading during the first week. Using cool ice packs and elevating your head will help reduce swelling.

The incisions are strategically placed to be as inconspicuous as possible. They can be hidden right below your eyelashes or on the inner surface of your eyelid, where they are completely hidden. If the incision is below your eyelashes, sutures will be removed in the office one week after surgery.
-
Patients with severe dry eye may not be good candidates for this surgery, as lower blepharoplasty could potentially worsen this condition. A thorough consultation will help determine if this procedure is right for you. Additionally, if you have had Lasik surgery, it is recommended to wait at least 6 months after Lasik before undergoing lower eyelid surgery.

It is generally not recommended to perform lower eyelid surgery under local anesthesia. The complex anatomy of the lower eyelid is better suited to general anesthesia to ensure optimal results and patient comfort.
