About Breast Reduction Surgery

Achieve Balance and Comfort

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, removes excess breast tissue and skin to achieve a breast size that has better proportion with your body and helps to alleviate discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

Why Consider BReast Reduction?

Overly large breasts can cause physical and emotional discomfort, impacting your quality of life. Breast reduction surgery can relieve pain, improve posture, and enhance your ability to participate in physical activities, all while creating a more balanced and proportional appearance.

The Benefits:

  1. Relief from Discomfort: Alleviates back, neck, and shoulder pain caused by heavy breasts.

  2. Improved Posture: Helps improve posture and reduce strain on the body.

  3. Enhanced Mobility: Increases comfort and ease in physical activities and exercise.

  4. Boosted Confidence: Achieves a more balanced and proportional breast size, enhancing self-esteem and body image.

What to Expect

  1. Consultation: During your consultation, we will discuss your goals, evaluate your breast anatomy, and determine the best surgical plan for you. I will explain the procedure, recovery, and expected outcomes in detail.

  2. Procedure: The procedure involves making incisions to remove excess breast tissue and skin. The remaining breast tissue is reshaped, and the nipples are repositioned on the new breast mound. Incisions are made around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and occasionally include a small horizontal incision along the breast crease.

  3. Recovery: Most patients can return to light physical activities within 2-3 weeks.

Why Choose Dr. Meredith Kugar?

I utilize a “short scar” technique that often eliminates the need for a horizontal scar underneath the breast. Breast Reduction FAQs

  • The recovery process is not too bad after a breast reduction! You will have work out restrictions after surgery to include no strenuous exercises for 2 weeks. You will be encouraged to walk and move around the day of surgery and get back to normal activities as soon as possible.

  • Incisions are typically made around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and occasionally horizontally along the breast crease.

  • Ideal candidates are individuals with overly large breasts causing physical discomfort or self-consciousness. Active smokers are not candidates for this procedure. You should wait 6 months after stopping breastfeeding to have surgery.

  • Breastfeeding after breast reduction surgery is possible but can be affected. Discuss your plans and concerns with me during the consultation to determine the best approach for your needs.

  • Results can last many years, but factors like aging, gravity, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy can affect longevity. Regular follow-ups and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help sustain your results.

  • As with any surgery, there are potential risks, including infection, scarring, changes in nipple or breast sensation, and asymmetry. I will discuss all potential risks and how to minimize them during your consultation.
